To the young one inside

To my younger self in two ponytails
Socially anxious and mouthfully rough
It’s okay to take your time opening up
Mountain trails are hiking tough.

Okay to breathe in ‘n hold your tears
As long as you let loose occasionally
Ganga also floods the city
The moment it rains too bountifully.

It’s okay to sit and daydream of sky
But don’t forget the reality at feet
Sometimes it takes simply courage to walk
And when it takes more, patiently sit.

Remember that time doesn’t stay the same
But same paths lead to the same results
When goals change, steer your path along
Tea can be served from more than kettles.

Young little me, don’t you hate yourself
Kindness is the boldest gift you were given
Wear it on your chest like a medal of honour
But guards yourself from camouflaged demons.

Still hear yourself amidst other voices loud
The world is too noisy for a quiet chat, baby
Recognise the privilege you’ve had as it is
But don’t ever forget the snatched rights, Panchi.

Look, I have grown a lot and you will too
Especially by writing lots of poetry
I want you to forgive yourself for all those crimes
That you hold onto yourself without ever committing.
